This is a tremendously exciting time to be part of the KICS family. I have worked in a few international schools in Asia and Africa but KICS is unique. My first impression about working at KICS is that it is a truly international school in terms of teaching and learning. KICS has a diverse global community which is very supportive. The work environment is ideal for any international curriculum and I think that the purpose-built campus is well thought out. I have so far enjoyed interactions with my TOK students at the IB center during my TOK lessons. As a Design and Technology teacher, I have also enjoyed working in our design workshop; it is a great makerspace for designing and creating products - an ideal ecosystem for students' innovation.
I think that what has really contributed to KICS being such a fantastic working place is the work done by the school leadership team - starting from the principal, head of sections, the amazing HR office, external affairs director and the finance office.
This is my 5th year teaching at KICS and I can truly say, it is a very unique place to teach. There is a real sense of community and lots of support from colleagues to help you manage the challenges of living in Sudan. The students are amazing, full of enthusiasm with a love of learning and we all appreciate the beautiful campus which is something of an oasis on the outskirts of the city.
Management goes the extra mile in facilitating your stay, doing their best to make sure your needs are met both on and off campus. Throughout my time teaching here, I have felt valued and appreciated. My daughter is currently in Year 10 and has a great group of friends with whom she has a lot in common. Sudan gives you the rare opportunity to be innovative and creative in how you pass your time, which I find a refreshing change from the busy city life in the UK.
As this is my fourth year at KICS, it is my belief that this is a wonderful community and an overall positive place to work. The colleagues that I teach with, collaborate with, and interact with are some of the best that I have had the opportunity to work with in my teaching career. It is simply amazing to encounter the level of positivity that my colleagues at KICS possess. The students make me feel rewarded as an educator which provides an overall productive experience in the classroom. Teaching in the Secondary School, the administration (heads and coordinators) are trusting which shows supportive intentions in our interactions. This allows me to flourish in my career. They are open and approachable with a strong belief in my competence and growth in my profession. The support staff serve the school with great heart and inspire me to offer my best at all times. The staff as a whole at KICS focuses on the direction of the school and is committed to the mission and vision. It is for these reasons that I will return for my fifth year.
KICS has been supportive of our family since we decided to move here. A major benefit of KICS is having the creche right on campus. We drop our kids off at the beginning of the day and know they will be well-taken care in a safe environment until we collect them.
My former colleagues and friends around the world always ask me about KICS and my response to them is: I honestly love it. This is my third year teaching at KICS, an environment where excitement and curiosity keep thriving as days go by. As an educator, the level of trust and care the administration has in their teachers is unique and special. KICS allows me to learn and gain knowledge from others as the collaborative spirit in this school is highly functional. Working alongside students and staff who demonstrate integrity, and eagerness to work and study is exciting and stimulating! Engaging day-to-day with a diverse learning environment is absolutely empowering. Highlighting the enjoyable interactions that I have with my colleagues and students; these are learning experiences that stay with me forever.
KICS has a learning environment that welcomes and facilitates a smooth transition. The availability of learning resources, facilities, and support from administration and staff creates an atmosphere of comfort and security. The school is exceptionally supportive of its employees and the whole learning community from many angles. Changing new locations can be overwhelming but KICS has a culture of inclusivity where trust is nurtured. I couldn’t be happier to be a part of the KICS family.
