IB Diploma Section

Message from the Head of IB Diploma

Welcome to the IB Diploma Section.

The goal of the IB Diploma section, where all students take the full Diploma, is to provide a broad, balanced and in-depth education. We provide opportunities which allow students to develop intellectually, emotionally, physically and ethically. We value the development of the student as a whole, ensuring their well-being through our pastoral care and Physical Health Education programmes. Homeroom teachers also act as CAS advisors.

The curriculum in years 12 and 13 is focused on preparation for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. This programme is widely recognised as the premier post-16 education programme and it has allowed students to secure places at some of the most prestigious universities around the world. The IB Approaches to Learning and Learner profile attributes develop students who are life-long learners, internationally-minded and become caring young people who help to create a better world.

Students aiming to study in the USA are also able to study for and take the SAT exams as we are one of only two registered centres in Sudan. UK university admissions tests such as the BioMedical Admissions Test (BMAT) and Thinking Skills Assessment (TSA) for Oxford University are also available. There are two qualified College Counsellors dedicated to helping students find their “best fit” university.

In addition to their regular classes, students have the opportunity to join numerous extra-curricular activities, service learning, as well as participate in sports competitions and artistic pursuits such as drama productions and music concerts. All students participate in the Outdoor Education Programme in Chiang Mai, Thailand in Year 12 which engages students in personal development through cultural, environmental, community service, outdoor adventure and team-building activities.

We look forward to welcoming you into the DP Centre.
